Chicago Bears May Still Cut These Two Players In Near Future
Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

The free agency period is all but over, but the Chicago Bears may not be done making roster moves.

According to Brad Biggs of The Chicago Tribune, there still seems to be a chance that the Bears will cut edge rusher Dominique Robinson and wide receiver Velus Jones Jr.

Robinson, who played his collegiate football at the University of Miami (Ohio), was selected by Chicago in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

He played in every game during his rookie campaign, finishing with 30 tackles and 1.5 sacks. Then, this past season, he appeared in 11 contests, logging just 12 tackles and a half of a sack.

While Robinson may be a relative non-factor, Jones is a bit of a different story.

The Bears had high hopes for Jones when they took him out of the University of Tennessee in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

However, he has not lived up to expectations.

Jones participated in 12 games during his debut season, but tallied only seven catches for 107 yards and a score. He also carried the ball nine times for 103 yards while reaching the end zone once.

This past year, Jones played in 14 contests and made even less of an impact, catching four passes for 20 yards while rushing for 51 yards on eight attempts.

Biggs added that Chicago seemed like it really wanted to create opportunities for Jones in 2023, so it’s entirely possible that new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron utilizes him differently.

Of course, with the Bears adding fellow wide out Keenan Allen via trade this offseason, opportunities for Jones may be even harder to come by next season. That is, of course, unless Chicago finds a very unique way to implement Jones into the offense.

We’ll see what the Bears decide to do in the coming weeks and months.
